"We should all have a Rosie
in our life. Once I started reading Taking Rosie's Arm, I
couldn't put it down. "
"Taking Rosie's Arm is the riveting story
of Taylor Thomas and her journey from emotional defeat to a profound sense of
personal joy.... When Taylor finds herself embroiled with the consequences of
bad decisions and family members with problems even greater than her own, she
becomes involved with 79 year old Rosie MacIntosh. The two women form a
friendship to help Carolyn (a middle-aged woman debilitated by disease and
depression) and in the process Taylor learns invaluable lessons of compassion,
wisdom, and love. Very highly recommended reading, Taking Rosie's Arm is
a superbly crafted novel from first page to last!" -- Midwest Book Review
Taylor Thomas's
tough facade hasn't kept her from making several mistakes. However, when she
meets 79 year-old Rosie MacIntosh, who needs her home nursing skills, Taylor
discovers hard work and taking an interest in a client go hand in hand. Rosie
decides 27 year-old Taylor is full of ambition but needs to harness some of her
bad decisions. An unusual friendship forms that changes both of their lives.
Wit and determination transform insurmountable roadblocks into conquerable
challenges and a young woman is free to live her dreams.
Meet Taylor and Rosie:
"The first
thing you have to do is take the negative out of those thoughts. Organize the
positive and you won't be worried about the day." Firm and motherly, it
hit a raw nerve.
"Please,
Mrs. MacIntosh, don't assume I am thinking negatively. I've taken on a few more
responsibilities and one case is not as easy to deal with as others."
Stronger than my usual voice and not intended to reveal I was upset with Rosie.
"Point well
taken, but I'm not assuming, dear. You are wearing your signs today as
creatures of habit do." Another wistful sigh.
Okay, I would take
the bait; she had a hook that I easily grabbed. Why not? We had the remaining
half of our walk to complete and the conversation might distract me from my
worries, "Just how do I wear my 'signs', Rosie?"
"Without
sounding like I am criticizing, it is quite simple. You dress in gloom and
carry your negative thoughts deep in those pockets of yours. So simple,
dear."
"I'm not a
fashion hound, Rosie. Casual wear is what I am about and you know with this
work, it doesn't make sense to wear anything else." Clearly stated, I
thought that was enough and it was certainly my truth. Rosie wouldn't take
less.
"Sure, dear,
I hear you. But your sense of casual generally comes in two moods. Dark and
semi-dark, and I don't mean chocolate. Shall I go on, dear, or just let it
simmer?"
